Eva Longoria upstages fellow housewives

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

There is good news for ‘Desperate Housewives’ fans. In a promotional photoshoot for the show, Eva Longoria upstaged her fellow houswives with a show stopping gold dress, with a plunging neckline and cut to the thigh. Co-star Teri Hatcher also looked sensational in virginal white, while Nicolette Sheridan posed in purple and Felicity Huffman was ravishing and feminine in green.

But if sources are to be believed, Eva’s role as the sexy Gabrielle Solis in the fifth season won’t be quite so glamorous. The actress may have opted for a provocative look in the ads, but she is destined for a more modest style in the new series.

The fifth season of ‘Desperate Housewives’ picks up in the year 2013, where Eva’s character Gabrielle has acquired two children and a few extra pounds. The other good news is that the uber sexy Nicolette Sheridan, who plays Edie Brit will be making a comeback to the show with a new man, Boomtown’s Neal McDonough.

Creator Marc Cherry, who promises more mystery involving new neighbours, said: “The flash-forward was my way of hitting the reset button on the show.

Check out who made the Emmys shortlist for Best Comedy Actress!

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

The Emmys shortlists keep trickling in over at the swashbuckling Gold Derby — here are the 10 baked hams in the running for America’s Next Top Comedy Actress:

• Christina Applegate, Samantha Who? (”The Restraining Order”)
• Marcia Cross, Desperate Housewives (”Now You Know”)
• America Ferrera, Ugly Betty (”Odor in the Court”)
• Tina Fey, 30 Rock (”Sandwich Day”)
• Anna Friel, Pushing Daisies (”Bitter Sweets”)
• Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives (”Now I Know, Don’t Be Scared”)
Eva Longoria Parker, Desperate Housewives (”In Buddy’s Eyes”)
• Julia Louis-Dreyfus, New Adventures of Old Christine (”One and a Half Men”)
• Mary-Louise Parker, Weeds (”Bill Sussman”)
• Sarah Silverman, The Sarah Silverman Program (”Bored of the Rings”)

Our selected image suggests we care that OMG TERI HATCHER WAS SNUBBED THIS YEAR. Not really. I’m of the opinion that to expect four actresses from the same not-always-hilarious series to get noms just because they’re equally overexposed off-screen and get relatively equal time on-screen, is ludicrous. (And anyhow, isn’t series newcomer Dana Delany’s omission the real shocker?) Anyhow, I’ll be surprised if Huffman, Longoria, and Cross all get nods in lieu of first-time potential nominees Applegate or Silverman, who carry their own shows. Rejoice or disapprove in the comments below, or if you just don’t know what to think about the shortlist and airport security simply refuses let you through with that attitude, follow the fine example in this clip! Desperate rush for LA trip

Monday, May 26th, 2008

The hunt for South Africa’s biggest Desperate Housewives fan is heating up! More than 4000 SMS entries have been received to date, and there is less than a week left to secure your spot at a table with the ladies from Wisteria Lane.

But it will be only one lucky The Times reader and partner who will be a part of our biggest reader competition to date.

The Times is giving away a R150000 prize of a lifetime, which includes a trip to Los Angeles to attend a dinner hosted by Eva Longoria Parker, who plays Gabrielle.

The lucky winner will be accommodated for five nights, treated to a tour of the city, a VIP tour of Universal Studios, where Desperate Housewives is shot — and will be given spending money. All you have to do is answer the last easy question.

The competition ends on May 30, and the winner will be announced in The Times on June 4.

Eva Longoria: I want a baby, now!

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Desperate to become a mum, it’s all systems go for Eva Longoria. The actress only has a small window of opportunity to get pregnant due to her Desperate Housewives filming commitments and husband Tony Parker’s busy basketball schedule with the San Antonio Spurs.

Last October, 32-year-old Eva’s boss, Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, put a ban on the newly married star getting pregnant in a bid to prevent interruptions to planned storylines for the hit show. Now the timing seems perfect for the couple and Eva’s baby plan is apparently already under way. In March, she dismissed rumours that she was already pregnant, blaming her suspect baby bulge on tight- fitting jeans.

But sources who recently witnessed her tucking into a hearty lunch with Tony at a Los Angeles restaurant say that the tiny star was definitely ‘eating for two’. Eva’s keeping quiet for the moment – which could be a ploy to keep her Desperate Housewives bosses on side until she makes a big announcement. Either way, in Eva’s eyes there’s no time to lose.

Eva Longoria Not Quitting Desperate Housewives

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Eva Longoria Parker has denied reports that she’s set to quit her role on television’s ‘Desperate Housewives‘ to chase a career on the big screen. Longoria Parker shot to fame playing the wealthy Gabriel Solis in the hit tv show and has successfully made the transition into movies starring in ‘The Sentinel‘ alongside Kiefer Sutherland.

The 33-year-old denies she’s leaving the show telling Britain’s Heat magazine that,

I would be insane to do that. I’m of the opinion that the show will still be running for another five years, at least.

She adds, “Marc Cherry (the creator of ‘Desperate Housewives’) has all these incredible ideas and plot twists planned for the coming years, and I’m convinced the show will be a success as long as he’s involved.

Eva Longoria: “I grew up feeling very unattractive”

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Eva Longoria has revealed she grew up feeling “very unattractive”. The ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress — who’s married to San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker — said:

I grew up feeling very unattractive and I was probably the least attractive member of my family (…) I felt my sisters were so much more beautiful and I was the one girl who was darker skinned whereas they were much fairer.

The actress, who was voted No. 10 in COED Magazine Online’s list of Top 20 Sexiest Athlete Wives of 2007, added to Britain’s Heat magazine:

So I was really worried about my appearance and it wasn’t until much later that I kind of blossomed. But in other ways I’m glad I didn’t stand out as being pretty when I was growing up, because it made me that much more focused on my studies (…) I had a few guys chasing me at university, I suppose but it took me a while to get comfortable with that kind of attention.

Eva, 33, who plays the feisty character of Gabrielle Solis in the ABC television series, added:

I guess I became very competitive about my looks and after I won one competition I started getting into it (…) I would earn money and prizes and it was a great boost to my ego because of all the time as a teenager that I felt ugly.
